Lilian Asterfield is excited to be participating in the 36th Annual American Craft Council Show in Baltimore, our first year showing on the main, retail floor. The level of craft at this show is exceptional and we are very proud to be able to be a part of such a fun event. We hope that with the growing number of new talent and innovation gracing the showroom floor, as well as the tremendous upswing in the crafts movement, we'll see many more visitors attending to support creativity.

Inspiration, my Gram's dance cards form the late 20's.

I am a very lucky girl to have a grandmother who lived her dancing days in the 20's. Besides the frocks that were handmade, gloves, jewels, hats, handbags, and of course the shoes, dress-up was an extraordinary affair for me. Kay Schneider lives a life surrounded by things that were made to last forever and her craft, a kaleidoscope of quilts, pillows, and sweaters (excluding the edibles) are some of my favorite things in the world. I aspire to keep Lilian Asterfield a hand tailored good, keeping in the tradition of "lifetime-products" rather than "throw away-fashion". It just wouldn't be living up to Gram's standards, and I am inspired by her crafty beauty every day!

Ahh, back at the studio after a fun trip to the gorgeous city of Richmond, VA. The people are so very warm and welcoming we are fixed to return next year.

Meet the husband and wife team based in Boston who are devoted to making quality handmade unisex neckwear using unique prints and styles. Their designs include cotton prints, silks and wools, as well as vintage/recycled fabrics. They only create a handful of ties per fabric, and are constantly changing their selection. All their ties are hand cut, hand rolled, and hand sewn.

An Arabian to Remember

When my Mom was little it was her dream to have a horse. Pretend led her to the Midwest as Annie Oakley, braking the legs off her porcelain toy horses as she galloped off to the sunset across the living room carpet. Her cowgirl heart won my Dad's over drafting tables at the design firm they met at in Boston, MA. Years later after their twins turned 7, my Dad did the kindest thing, He made my Mom's dream come true.

Bostonian, an Arabian in youthful dark gray, joined our family in 1985. Boston and I grew up together and at the age of 35, he took his last blade of grass and bid farewell.

He will be sorely missed and was greatly loved every day of his life.

Cranberry & midnight, I love Art Nouveau and always keep my eyes out for prints that hint at it. I first cam across Mucha's amazing illustrations as a little girl after coveting the hard cover copy my mother had of Sarah Bernhardt.

Ooak/vintage Katherine

He was born Alfons Maria Mucha in the town of Ivančice, Moravia, in what is now the Czech Republic. Mucha designed a poster for the actress Sarah Bernhardt, the most famous actress in Paris at the time. She loved the work, landing him a 16year contract immortalizing the beauty in his is unique style called Art Nouveau. Mucha would produce paintings, posters, advertisements, and book illustrations, as well as designs for jewelry, carpets, wallpaper, and theatre sets.

Growing up on a Gentleman's Farm = house full of creative spirits meets tiny town, rolling hills, dense forest. I would say a hardy recipe for adventure. I still need a good dose of green and a visit with one of my favorite four legged critters, Miss Bella. I had to share a few of the glamour shots from my last visit.

Pink freckles and the sweetest kissable nose.

When my Dad first met Bella, she was a tiny scrapper. The other horses gave her such a hard time, knipping her main so that she looked like a gauky wild animal.

When she caught sight of my dad, she quietly made her way over, and rested her head on his shoulder, it was love at first sight and she joined the family soon after. Bella is now a very big girl. I don't know exactly how many hands, but lets just say we could have a well attended dinner party after.
